Building Futures: The Campaign for Covenant House New York
Covenant House New York provides more than 80 percent of the
beds available to homeless youth in New York. Last year, 4,445
young people came to us for food, shelter, and services. Our
Crisis Centers have never been busier. Last year we averaged 168
kids each night, and this year we’ve had as many as 198 on a
single night.
In 2002, the Board of Directors of Covenant House New York
embarked on a mission to raise $25 million dollars to renovate
our Crisis Center. Building Futures: The Campaign for Covenant
House New York will go public on September 26, 2005 with a
launch event at the Chase Manhattan Bank building at 270 Park
Avenue. To date we have raised $10 million and have completed
renovation on our Mother and Child facility.
As we work to raise the funds to refurbish our
facilities, we are currently facing the troubles of a
leaky roof and a crumbling exterior at our 41st street
location. In spite of the condition of our facility, we
continue to service a growing number of youth. The
number of kids waiting to use our long-term transitional
program is overwhelming and the expansion of this
program is essential.
Building Futures: The Campaign for Covenant House New York has a
two-fold goal – to raise the funds to refurbish our facilities
to help kids build their futures and to solidify the future of
the agency. We are going to need the help of our friends and
supporters to reach our capital campaign goal of $25 million.
This will allow us to complete the work needed to house and
serve our youth. It will also allow us to focus on the future by
obtaining the resources to develop innovative programs geared to
meet the needs of the kids who come through our door.
