Positions Available As Of February 2010
- Substance Abuse Counselor: We are currently seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor / Assessment and Referral Specialist (Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or a Social Worker (MSW) preferred :
Coordinates substance abuse assessment and referral for Covenant House New York Residents primarily in the thirty day crisis center. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience in substance abuse treatment. Must have familiarity with both outpatient and inpatient services available in the NYC area. Responsibilities include providing group and individual counseling as well as providing training to the staff on the issues of substance use and abuse. Also works with representatives from Twelve Step Programs for in house meetings.
Work closely with and assist the Case Managers who are the primary case worker for the residents. Experience working with at-risk and homeless youth is a plus. Required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
- Crisis Center and Rights of Passage - Resident Advisor: To provide residential clients direct, physical and supportive services in a positive and nurturing environment using an integrated, multi-disciplinary team approach. Required: A Bachelor's Degree.

- Per diem/part-time Board Certified Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner: Covenant House New York, a homeless shelter for youth, seeks a per diem/part-time Board Certified Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to work with our Mental Health Day Program (1-2 days a week). The responsibilities of this position include psychiatric screenings, completing written psychiatric evaluations for housing applications and medication management. Individual will work closely with the staff of the Mental Health Day Program to ensure appropriate treatment goals and expedite housing placement. CHNY is seeking a candidate who is comfortable working with adolescents, is organized, and able to manage their time effectively. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Social Worker: MSW will be responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the Crisis Center Case Managers who are providing quality services to residents. Must have experience working with at-risk and homeless youth. Required to work rotating late night shifts, holidays and weekends and as a part of the Crisis Center Management Team. Valid New York State license and a clean driving record a must and be comfortable driving 15 passenger van. One year social service management experience preferred.
