Positions Available As Of January 2008
- Part-time Registered Nurse Instructor: Reports to the Deputy Director of Regional Training Center. The Nurses-Aide Instructor develops, upgrades and implements the CHNY Nurses-Aide Training Program consistent with the NYS mandates, rules and regulations related to the issuance of health professional licenses. Teaches basic nursing skills. Establishes Student Code of Conduct, approves and finalizes students’ admission to the program. Coordinates with other departments, nursing homes, hospitals about students’ internship, support services, job placement, referrals and other instructional services and resources. Supervises students during internship at nursing facilities, schedule and prepare students for taking the State licensure examination.
Must be a New York State Registered Nurse and possess the appropriate licensure with two years experience employed as an RN in a Nursing Home setting. Must have experience in teaching Nursing.
- Employment Specialist: The Employment Specialist will prepare the youth for the “world of work” through job readiness workshops, resume building and job counseling. The Employment Specialist will then develop and maintain relationships with employers in the business community to secure job opportunities for Covenant House New York youth. They will prepare the youth for job interviews and set up appointment with prospective employers.
Must be able to provide employment counseling to youth in regards to maintaining employment. Assist with job fairs both internally and externally and foster positive working relationships between the Regional Training Center and the referrals programs. (Rites of Passage, Crisis Center/Mother/Child and Community Based Programs)
A Bachelors Degree required. This position requires a high-level of communication skills including oral, written and presentation. Must be able to network with the business community and be computer literate and be able to use Microsoft Word and other programs. Prior experience working with youth and job development or sales strongly preferred. Valid New York State license required and be comfortable driving seven passenger van.
- Social Worker: MSW will be responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the Crisis Center Case Managers who are providing quality services to residents. Must have experience working with at-risk and homeless youth. Required to work rotating late night shifts, holidays and weekends and as a part of the Crisis Center Management Team. Valid New York State license and a clean driving record a must and be comfortable driving 15 passenger van. One year social service management experience preferred.
- Security Officer: The Public Safety Officers will ensure the safety of the Crisis Center, ROP and all staff and guests within the facility. Verify/approve proper identification for residents. Prevent loitering in prohibited areas. Conduct security patrols in buildings as assigned. Monitor closed circuit televisions and areas surrounding assigned post. Activate/deactivate alarms as required. Must be able to work rotating shifts and overnights.
New York State Security Guard license and a High School Diploma/GED. One year experience required. Valid NYS drivers’ license required and must be comfortable driving seven and fifteen passenger vans in New York City.

- Crisis Center and Rights of Passage - Resident Advisor: To provide residential clients direct, physical and supportive services in a positive and nurturing environment using an integrated, multi-disciplinary team approach. Required: A Bachelor's Degree.

- Physician Assistant: Responsibilities include: Rendering primary medical care and treatment to homeless and runaway adolescents. Qualifications include: NYS Physician Assistant license with current registration required. Ability to see signs and symptoms detected during evaluation and assessment, and from these formulate a working diagnosis and treatment plan. Excellent communication skills. Some experience working with homeless and runaway adolescents is preferred.
