December 20, 2006 -- Building a Future for Young People through the Generosity of Others

Covenant House New York’s goal for its Capital Campaign (renovating and refurbishing its 41st and 52nd Street locations) is $25 million. Yesterday, the organization took a step forward in reaching that goal. Through the generosity of Dennis and Lynne Jilot, Covenant House New York received a gift that will allow the organization to complete the restoration of its Chapel. With long lasting ties with Covenant House, the Jilot Family decided to dedicate the Chapel to Father Placid Stroik (Director of Pastoral Ministry.

Though currently residing on the west coast, Dennis and Lynne have remained committed to Covenant House and the young people it serves. Dennis Jilot, a former board member, has known Father Placid since the late 1980s and has developed a long lasting friendship. Father Placid began at Covenant House in 1982 as a Faith Community worker, spending one year serving the young people while providing spiritual guidance. He returned to Covenant House New York in 1987 and has dedicated his life to Covenant House’s mission and vision.

At a sentimental ceremony, held on December 14th at Covenant House’s Rights of Passage facility, the Jilot Family and Father Placid were honored for their undeniable commitment to the young people of Covenant House. Bruce J. Henry, executive director of Covenant House New York and Frank Trainer, board member and head of the Capital Campaign, shared their gratitude to both Dennis and Lynne Jilot and Father Placid.
