July 5, 2006 -- Health Fair Raises Awareness
Health Fair Raises Awareness On Friday, June 30th Covenant House’s Brooklyn Community Resource Center held a health fair to promote awareness of health issues. Covenant House used this event to ensure that people know what they can do to stay healthy as well as what help is available to the sick. Organizations devoted to helping people obtain information about health related problems were also present. The event stressed the importance of living healthily by eating right and exercising. Staff pointed out that the best way to prevent most diseases is to have a balanced diet and be physically active. Health food was served to emphasize the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and information about physical therapy programs was given out to help the disabled. Some organizations such as Care Plus and Nurse Family Partnership were present to highlight certain health related concerns. Care Plus provided information on affordable healthcare while Nurse Family Partnership offered help to pregnant teenagers and mothers who couldn’t afford childcare. Other groups talked about medical disorders such as diabetes, sickle cell anemia, and asthma. This fair called attention to the need to have a healthier lifestyle while also giving the people in attendance the tools to lead better lives. Individuals that lead healthy lives will make a better, longer lasting community.
