June 9, 2006 -- Rights of Passage celebrates its 20th Anniversary
 On May 18, Covenant House New York celebrated Rights of Passage 20th Anniversary. The event was a remarkable success with more than 400 individuals in attendance ranging from staff, general supporters, board members, past and present residents and current mentors.
The evening began with an appreciation reception on Covenant House Rooftop for our common supporters, board members and friends. Following the reception was the start of the Capitol Campaign. With our capital campaign the goal is to raise $25 million for the restoration of our 41st Street facility. In conjunction with the capital campaign, two dozen current youth of Rights of Passage graduated from the program. The graduation was absolutely astonishing. To add to this celebration was Irv “Mr. G” Gikofsky, who was the Master of Ceremony. The evening continued with guest speaker, Gerold Roche. Gerold was the first mentor in our Rights of Passage program. He along with his men-tees, former clients who entered Rights of Passage in 1986, shared their knowledge and success to our present youth. Hearing the speeches from past and present youth at Covenant House was remarkable and sobering. It is times like these that propels us forward and gives us a new outlook and fresh ideas. To continue the night’s success Tracy Jones-Walker and Vivian Greaves were introduced as our two newest board members. This is the first time that Covenant House nominated two former residents of Covenant House to the Board of Directors and we are pleased to have them. After the graduation a reception for all was held on the rooftop. With this we wanted to thank everyone for their continuous support and dedication to the youth we serve. Reflecting on the changes and accomplishments Rights of Passage have made gives today’s youth new hope.
