This training will provide a basic overview of immigration law with a focus on issues relevant to youth who are under 21. Topics will include: • Glossary of Immigration Terms •Immigration Status • Visas • Family Based Immigration • Employment Based Immigration • Asylum/Refugee Immigration • Protection Based Petitions (Special immigrant juvenile status, violence against women act, victims of Human Trafficking, victims of certain crimes) • Rights of Undocumented Immigrants • Impact of a Criminal Record on Immigration Status • Grounds for Inamissibility and Deportation • LGBT Issues in Immigration • Replacing a lost or stolen Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services filing fees and how to obtain a fee waiver • Pending Legislation – DREAM Act. |

The media is relentlessly pursuing our girls. And the evidence show that they are succeeding-girls obsessed with their looks, getting boys to like them and doing whatever it takes to be popular and fit in. This workshop is adapted from Cassandra Mack’s book, Cool, Confident and Strong: 52 Power Moves for Girls. It provides youth service practitioners with self-esteem building and personal power activities as well as discussion questions that they can incorporate into their existing programs for girls. Further, it will help youth service practitioners develop a better understanding of what teenage girls need to grow into confident, empowered young women who make choices that respect their values, boundaries and bodies. |
