Mission:
The Advocacy Department's program
mission is to influence local, state and
national public policy on issues that
affect homeless or at risk young adults'
ability to become independent and self
sustaining adults. As advocates, we are
committed to raising the awareness of
legislators and the public at large to
the problems confronting our young
people.
Functions:
- To position Covenant House as the
lead organization in issues dealing
with homeless, runaway, and at risk
youth.
- To coordinate advocacy efforts
that influence local, state and
national public policy on issues
affecting urban, homeless, runaway,
and at risk youth.
- To annually meet with elected
officials and legislators at the
local, state and national level whose
districts encompass our programs, as
well as those who are chairs of
government committees that deal with
youth issues, to bring attention and
change to issues faced by this
population.
- To educate the general public on
the many problems our young people
must confront.
- To refer youth with legal issues
such as immigration, criminal and
housing matters to external legal
representation.
